Donovan, 12, enjoys karate

Donovan is an attractive 12-year-old child who has a great sense of humor. He is affectionate, sensitive and energetic. He participates in karate classes, which he greatly enjoys.

Donovan loves to listen to music on his portable CD player. He knows the words to many songs and enjoys singing along to music from his favorite artists. He enjoys riding his bike, fishing, swimming and playing Nintendo.

Donovan enjoys hands-on activities such as gardening and spending time with animals.

He has two beta fish and is responsible in taking care of them. Donovan has an interest in sharks. He loves to go on outings, especially to Wal-Mart, which is his favorite place to shop.

Donovan is an eager and inquisitive learner. He does well in school, although he is somewhat behind in his academics because of changing schools often and multiple moves in his young life.

Donovan gets distracted and is most successful when he is provided with clear and consistent directions. He is a child who asks many questions to understand the world and how things work.

Donovan is anxious about his future and who will take care of him as he grows. Donovan is an intuitive child who reads others well and who is aware of changes in his environment. Donovan has not experienced a successful parental relationship and he does not trust that caregivers will follow through with what they say.

Donovan is eager to live in a family setting, but attaching to a new family feels risky to him. He needs a loving, nurturing and patient family that will be sensitive to his emotional needs and help him learn to trust that it is safe to be part of a family.

Donovan is one of the 159 children in the care of the state Department of Health and Human Services who is seeking an adoptive family.

Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
