UMaine’s Wren applies for partial retirement

Jeff Wren, who has been a member of the coaching staff of University of Maine swimming and diving teams for 36 years, has applied for partial phase retirement with the university.

Wren remains the head coach of both the Black Bear men’s and women’s programs. Pending approval of the retirement plan, he will remain with the swim program on a part-time basis for the next three years.

If the partial phase retirement application is accepted, a search will begin for Wren’s successor.

Wren has been involved with the UMaine swim program since its inception in 1971. He started out as a graduate assistant under Alan Switzer, then became head coach of the women’s team for the 1973-74 season.

Wren assumed responsibility for the men’s program during 1990-91 and has directed both teams ever since.
