STANDISH – Gabrielle Burrola allowed just one run on four hits while striking out 13 and walking none to lead Saint Joseph’s College to the 2-1 softball win over Husson College of Bangor in the first game on Saturday. The Monks beat the Eagles 9-8 in the second game.

In the first game, Liddy van der Linden hit two doubles and scored a run for the Monks and Amanda Roy had two singles and a run scored.

Jenny Rollins homered and singled for the Eagles and Jordan Pruett doubled.

In the second game, Burrola hit two doubles to drive in four runs for Saint Joseph’s. Aly Ludwig had three singles and three runs scored and Anna Willie added two singles and two runs scored.

Shawna Bell doubled twice for Husson and Michelle Mulherin had a double and a single with three RBIs. Pruett singled and doubled with two RBIs and two runs scored.

At Waltham, Mass., Kaitlin Streilein homered and doubled to drive in three runs and lift Brandeis University over Husson College 8-6 in the second game on Sunday. The Judges also won the first game 6-2.

In the first game, Natalie Volpe had a double and three RBIs for Brandeis. Cassie Berry doubled and singled for Husson and Shawna Bell added two singles.

In the second game, Danielle Mayer hit a home run and a single to knock in two runs for the Judges. Berry had two singles and a run driven in for the Eagles.

Maine wins two of three

At Baltimore, Kristen Calvetti hit a three-run home run in the 13th inning to lift the University of Maine over the University of Maryland-Baltimore Country 3-1 in Saturday’s first game. UMBC shutout Maine 7-0 in the second game. On Sunday the Black Bears beat the Retrievers 7-6.

In Saturday’s first game, Christine McGivney pitched 12 innings, allowing just one run and one walk while striking out four to pick up the win for the Black Bears. Jenna Balent earned the save and Ashley Waters singled and scored.

Ashley Gray pitched all 13 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits, one walk while fanning 12 for UMBC.

In Saturday’s second game, Melanie Denischuk had a home run and three singles with two RBIs for UMBC.

Kristie Hawkins, Kate Joseph, Alexis Souhlaris and Courtney Gingrich singled for Maine.

In Sunday’s game, Souhlaris homered, doubled and singled to drive in three runs for the Black Bears. Erin Iandoli hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning and Tara Vilardo homered.

At Medford, Mass., senior pitcher Kristin Masino allowed just one run on three hits to lead Bates College to the 4-1 victory over Tufts University in Saturday’s first game. Tufts shutout Bates in the second game, 11-0 in five innings.

In the first game, Jill Cappucci hit her first home run of the season for the Bobcats. Caitlin Murphy hit a double and two singles and scored two runs.

In the second game, Stephanie Tong allowed just two hits and held Bates scoreless through four innings to earn the win. Jenna Robey had two doubles and a single with four RBIs.

Rhode Island sweeps USM

At Providence, Kristyn Alexander was a combined 4-for-6 and drove in six runs in two games to lead the Rhode Island College to a Little East Conference sweep of the University of Southern Maine Huskies Saturday. The Anchorwomen defeated the Huskies 8-0 in six innings in the first game and then took a five-inning 10-2 victory in the second game.

In the first game, Alexander helped the Anchorwomen break open a close game in the bottom of the fifth, when she smacked a three-run home run over the fence in left field. USM was held to three hits.

In the second game, Rhode Island earned four runs with five hits during the first inning to roll to a 10-2 win.

Anita Dixon and Sabrina Sevigny rapped out two hits apiece for Southern Maine.

Babson sweeps USM

At Gorham, Michelle Bolduc singled in the top of the sixth in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader to help the Babson College edge the University of Southern Maine 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday. Babson won the second game 11-0.

In the first game, the Huskies took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Sevigny tripled in Anita Dixon, who had doubled. Babson scored two runs in the top of the fifth, but USM tied it in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Christen Lachapelle.

Dixon finished with two singles and a double.

In the second game, Jess Byrn drove in three runs to lead Babson to a five inning 11-0 win.

UNE drops three of four

At Dudley and Beverly, Mass., Jennifer Dudney hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to lead Nichols College past the University of New England 2-1 in Saturday’s first game. The Nor’easters took the second game 3-1. Endicott College swept UNE on Sunday, 4-0 and 12-2.

In Saturday’s first game, Loren Rozanski singled and scored for Nichols. Katie Morin singled three times for UNE and Sarah Hamel doubled and singled to knock in a run.
