Bravo’s “Top Design” might be coming to an end, but producers who want to make sure that the Wednesday time slot isn’t left empty are ready to air another new show.
Unfortunately, “Shear Genius” doesn’t have any qualities that make it a cut above the rest of the hair shows we’ve seen so far.
WE TV had “Hair Trauma,” we’ve talked about “Blow Out” in the past, and perhaps it’s time we trim from the list of reality TV topics worthy of a new show. But first, we must see if “Shear Genius” can make the cut and survive for a season.
Competing for $100,000 and a slew of other prizes, contestants from around the world compete in a variety of “shortcuts” to test their technical skills. Elimination rounds will crop out a competitor each week.
The format is very similar to what we’ve seen from Bravo over the last few months in “Project Runway,” “Top Chef,” and “Top Design.”
While I might be a little down on the subject, after watching the preview I think I’m going to have to keep myself updated on the progress of at least one contestant who, to be honest, frightens me.
Tabatha, 39, is from Australia and now owns Industrie Hair Gurus in Ridgewood, N.J. Don’t let her smile and ambition fool you. She’s serious about hair and you don’t want to get in her way.
Without giving away too much, I can tell you that I was shocked by the first “shortcut” challenge in which each contestant created a hairstyle.
When all was said and done, there is only one that I would have left the house in without a very large hat, and it wasn’t Tabatha’s.
“Shear Genius” premieres at 11 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, after the “Top Design” season finale.
Speaking of “Top Design,” my favorite contestant is gone and now I’ve lost interest.
Goil was voted off, and probably rightly so, but I still found him to be the most entertaining. His designs weren’t the best, but The Man on the Couch and I enjoyed his quirky ways and felt sorry for the way other contestants treated him.
Yes, it’s true. I’m a sucker for the underdog.
