WASHINGTON – Maine emergency responders have received $212,300 from the Department of Homeland Security as part of the Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program, or CEDAP. The money will fund 18 Maine police, fire, EMS, and public safety jurisdictions, including the following:
. Milford Fire Department, $17,167.20 for AMKUS, a hydraulic rescue system.
. Rockland Police Department, $33,100 for a video detective system.
. Orono Police Department, $10,553.14 for thermal imaging equipment.
. Fort Fairfield Police Department, $2,407.88 for an Evader’s night vision imaging system.
. Madawaska Police Department, $13,834 for a Stedi-Eye System.
. Ashland Police Department, $10,553.14 for thermal imaging equipment.
. Hampden Public Safety, $8,337 for fire service thermal imaging equipment.
. Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department, $2,407 for Evader’s night vision imaging system .
. Houlton Police Department, $10,553 for thermal imaging equipment.
. Bucksport Fire Department, an unknown amount for CEDAP personal protective equipment.
“This funding is critical to protecting the citizens of Maine,” Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins said in a prepared statement. “Funding for first responders is desperately needed in many smaller areas of the nation.”
The Department of Homeland Security announced a national total of $34.6 million for CEDAP.
