AUBURN – An Auburn man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a murder charge in last month’s death of a baby girl who was left in his care.

Todd Gamache, 23, who was indicted last week, was arraigned in Androscoggin County Superior Court.

Gamache is accused of killing 8-month-old Emmy Leigh Cole, who was rushed to the hospital on March 22 and died two days later. The state medical examiner’s office ruled the death a homicide and said Emmy Leigh died of a blunt impact injury to the head.

Gamache had been dating the infant’s mother.

He was returned to the county jail, where he was ordered held without bail.
