Jordan Planetarium

ORONO – The University of Maine’s Maynard F. Jordan Planetarium is launching its newest show, “Black Holes,” and new projection system, with showings at 7 p.m. Saturdays, April 14, 21 and 28.

Produced in Salt Lake City by Clark Planetarium, “Black Holes” takes viewers on a journey through one of the most mystifying, awe-inspiring phenomena in the universe. Using 3-D visualization technology, the Omni Dome system turns the dome’s 360 degrees into a video screen for an extravaganza of simulated travel. The whole family will be swept away into the journey.

Younger sky watchers in the family will enjoy “Zubenelgenubi’s Magic Sky,” showing at 2 p.m. Sundays, April 15, 22 and 29. The host, Zubenelgenubi, and several colorful cartoon characters help viewers understand the day and night skies. The program is a fun and educational experience for children ages 4 to 7.
