BANGOR – More winter weather is on tap a week after a spring snowstorm knocked out electricity for more than 100,000 homes and businesses in Maine.

The National Weather Service posted a winter storm warning for today in western Maine and a storm watch for eastern and northern Maine. The forecast calls for a messy mix of rain and snow, with up to a foot of snow in the mountains, and 7 inches or more accumulating in northern and eastern Maine by Friday morning. The snow is expected to start during the day today in western Maine and in the evening elsewhere.

The precipitation will be heavy and wet, so there could be more power outages, according to meteorologist John Cannon.

And that’s not the end of it.

An even bigger storm is brewing for the weekend, with the possibility of more snow along with high winds and beach erosion, he said.
