Bangor man charged in domestic assault

A Bangor man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend who is 41/2 months pregnant.

The girlfriend went to the Bangor Police Department on Sunday morning and told police that Carl Dawes, 26, had attempted to choke her, held her against the wall and spit in her face while they were arguing the night before, according to the police report.

She said they argued again Sunday morning, and he again held her against the wall. She had bruises on both biceps, according to the police report.

When police went to his house, Dawes told them that his girlfriend had started punching herself in the stomach and he had held her down to keep her from hurting herself or the fetus.

Dawes was charged with domestic assault and taken to Penobscot County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 24.
