ENFIELD – Maine State Police responded to an armed robbery here Monday night, the second in as many days in the area.

Police scanner traffic shortly after the 9:30 p.m. robbery indicated police were looking for a 6-foot, 2-inch male wearing a beanie cap, blue sweat shirt and bluejeans who held up the Nutters Cash Market on Bridge St.

A dispatcher indicated the subject displayed a handgun and left the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

Owner Vanessa Bruce answered the phone at the store at about 10:30 p.m. and acknowledged being behind the counter when the market was robbed.

She said the man pointed a gun at her, but that she was fine. Bruce then said she couldn’t talk just then, because she was busy with police who were still at the store gathering fingerprints and evidence.

“We’ve got dogs and fingerprints and everything,” she said.

No further information was available late Monday.

Earlier Monday, a detective with the Old Town police was still investigating an armed robbery that occurred Sunday at an Irving Mainway gas station and convenience store.

The robber in that case was described as a white male about 6 feet tall wearing a hooded sweat shirt and jeans. That robber also brandished a gun when demanding money.

Old Town police Detective Tom Adams said Monday that police were still investigating leads and were working with Orono police to determine if another robbery last month at the Thriftway grocery store there might have been committed by the same person. A description of the robber and the circumstances in the Orono case were similar, Adams said.

In Sunday’s robbery of the Irving on Main Street, the robber was scared away by the cashier.
