Shaw’s Supermarkets announced Thursday it would offer organic dog and cat food at all of its New England stores starting April 21.

“Pets are an important part of the family and we recognize that,” Shaw’s president Carl Jablonski said in a press release. “We have put tremendous focus on carrying a wide variety of organic foods for our customers and we’re happy to add organic pet foods to the mix.”

The stores will carry the full line of 16 products from Newman’s Own Organic pet food, which do not contain poultry byproducts, chemical fertilizers, antibiotics, chemical additives, wheat, corn, artificial flavors or colors, or dyes, the release said.

Shaw’s, Osco and Star Market are a division of Supervalu Inc., and have 210 stores and about 29,000 employees in New England, according to the release.
