AUGUSTA – Maine’s unemployment rate declined by 0.1 percentage point in March, as the number of working Mainers continued to increase, state Labor Commissioner Laura Fortman said Friday.

The March jobless rate was 4.3 percent, down from 4.4 percent in February. The preliminary figures are adjusted for seasonal fluctuations in the labor market.

Maine’s March rate was also 0.1 percentage point below the national rate for March.

Fortman said 7,400 more Mainers were working in March than a year earlier.
