CALAIS – Student council adviser Rick Chaffey at Calais High School was recently named Maine’s High School Advisor of the Year by the National Association of Student Councils.

“We are proud to recognize Rick Chaffey for his exemplary character, leadership and commitment to young people and their development as student leaders,” Rocco M. Marano, director of NASC, said in a press release.

Chaffey has been the student council adviser and teacher at Calais High School for the past 29 years, and this is the second time he has received this award. Under his guidance, among the many achievements, seven of his students have been elected as state presidents of the Maine Association of Student Councils, which is a record in Maine.

Chaffey’s award coincided with National Student Leadership Week, April 15-21, an annual event held to highlight the importance of student activities.
