White leads Husson to sweep vs. Beavers

BANGOR – Danny White had two singles, three RBIs, twp runs and two stolen bases to lead Husson College a doubleheader baseball sweep over the University of Maine-Farmington here Friday.

Husson won the first game 8-7 and the second game 6-2.

In the first game, Andrew Patterson and Bryan Biggers each doubled and singled for Husson and Adam Sheehan tripled and scored a run.

Corey Provencher had a triple and two RBIs for UM-Farmington and Matt Judkins doubled.

In the second game, Biggers hit a double and two singles for the Eagles and Danny White singled, scored two runs and stole two bases.

Andrew Bellmore singled to knocked in a run for the Beavers.

Colby 13, Bates 12

At Waterville, Robert Tourek drove in Ken Kaufman with the game-winning run as Colby College scored twice in the bottom of the ninth to pull out the victory over Bates.

Colby scored eight runs over the final three innings to come back from an 11-5 deficit.

Kyle McKay had four hits to lead Colby while Tom Salemy had a three-run home run in the seventh inning. Craig Cooper and Salemy had three hits apiece for the Mules.

Erik Hood and Josh Linscott both had four hits for Bates while Brian Buckley added three hits.

At Gorham, Mark Schmidt and Brady Blackman combined on a four-hitter as the University of Southern Maine shut out Saint Joseph’s College of Standish.

Chris Burleson and Max Arsenault each hit a home run for USM. Arsenault had three hits and drove in four runs for the Huskies.

Wade Oliver had a double for St. Joseph’s.

UMass Boston, USM split

At Boston, Kristina Grondin hit a three-run homer and a double to drive in five runs and push the University of Southern Maine past the University of Massachusetts Boston 20-3 in the second game. The Beacons won the first game 8-6.

In the first game, Alison Lowe homered and doubled to drive in three runs for UMass Boston.

Christen Lachapelle singled three times for the Huskies and Grondin doubled twice to knock two runs.

In the second game, Lachapelle tripled with two RBIs for the Huskies. Anita Dixon and Shawna Richard each singled four times.

Shannon Doherty had a triple and two singles for UMass Boston.

Bates, Colby split

At Lewiston, sophomore Alyssa Crowell pitched the shutout allowing four hits and two walks while striking out five to lead Colby College past Bates College 3-0 in the second game. Bates won the first game 5-1.

In the first game, Katie Franklin singled twice and scored two runs for Bates and Jill Cappucci doubled and singled.

Amy Palmer hit an RBI single in the second inning for Colby.

In the second game, Carlie Minichino had two hits and an RBI for Colby and Crowell also had two hits.

Bowdoin sweeps Husson

At Brunswick, Julia Jacobs allowed just one run on two hits and three walks while striking out 11 to lift Bowdoin College over Husson College 2-1 in the second game. Bowdoin also won the first game 9-1.

In the first game, Karen Reni allowed no earned runs, four hits and no walks while striking out nine through five inning for Bowdoin.

Alison Coleman homered and singled to drive in two runs for Bowdoin and Jessica Paris had two doubles and a single with two RBIs.

Jenny Rollins doubled and scored for Husson and Michelle Mulherin doubled.

In the second game, Shavonne Lord singled and knocked in a run for Bowdoin. Lauren Coven and Jayme Woogerd each singled and scored.

Cassie Berry hit a solo home run in the first inning for Husson.
