Concerned store clerks at the Irving Blue Canoe gas station on Odlin Road alerted authorities shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday when they saw a man “slumped behind the wheel” of his car for quite some time.
When police arrived, Andrew Allen, 41, of Sherman Mills, who was out on bail for narcotics possession, told them he had been sleeping because he was recovering from the flu.
Police then learned that Allen’s license was suspended and he had been a habitual offender. According to reports, Allen told police that his nephew had driven him across the street to Irving, but could not remember where he then went.
As one officer interviewed witnesses, another searched Allen and found three Klonopin pills along with a bag of marijuana in his pockets.
Allen told police he had a prescription for the pills. According to a prescription drug Web site, Klonopin is prescribed for seizures, panic disorders and epilepsy.
Allen was charged with possessing Schedule Z drugs. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on May 31. (Aaron Smith, BDN)
A tip from a concerned resident Saturday led Milo police to a mobile home where 275 marijuana plants were confiscated.
The homeowner, who could not be located Saturday, turned himself in on Sunday when he learned he was wanted by police.
Kevin Pearl, 42, was arrested for Class C marijuana cultivation and was taken to the Piscataquis County Jail, Milo Police Chief Michael Poulin said Sunday.
Because the concerned resident did not want his name identified in a search warrant, Poulin advised Officer David Henderson to visit Pearl’s Pleasant Street mobile home and talk with the homeowner.
Henderson found no one at the mobile home, but he observed 13 marijuana plants growing on a windowsill. Photographs of the plants, as well as potting soil and black irrigation pipe outside the property, were taken. It was enough evidence to convince a judge to sign a search warrant without identifying the concerned resident, Poulin said.
While Henderson and Poulin went to Dover-Foxcroft to get the warrant, Brownville police officers Derek Hersey and Cpl. Nick Clukey kept the home under surveillance.
Poulin said 275 marijuana plants in small pots were found under lights inside a closet and on a windowsill. The plants ranged in size from 2 inches to several inches high. He estimated the street value of the plants at $220,000.

Two men on probation found themselves behind bars Thursday for allegedly committing new crimes.
Dexter police received a call at about 2:30 p.m. that the two men, who were traveling together in a 1994 Toyota pickup truck, had reportedly tried to pick a fight with an individual on Church Street, according to Dexter Police Chief Art Roy.
Only one man was in the pickup truck when police found the vehicle on Prospect Street, Roy said Thursday night.
When the vehicle was stopped, police charged James Reynolds, 29, of Clinton for being a habitual offender since his license was suspended and for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants.
Reynolds was on probation for a previous charge of driving while under suspension, so he was placed on a probation hold and taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
Police found the second man who had been in the pickup truck on Spring Street after residents reported their vehicles had been burglarized.
Robert Crosby, 40, of Canaan was charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and possession of Schedule Z drugs. Crosby, who was on probation for a previous violation and was listed on the Maine State Police sex offender registry, was placed on a probation hold and was taken to the Penobscot County Jail.

A South China man was arrested in Orono early Sunday morning after a police officer spotted two men walking on Park Street carrying silver cans, according to police files.
As the officer came closer to the pair, one of the men put the can behind his back and dropped it. When the officer asked for identification, Kenneth DeMuth, 24, of South China presented a suspended driver’s license, according to police files.
Police then learned DeMuth had two outstanding warrants for his arrest in Kennebec County, one for failing to appear on an operating under the influence charge and another for failing to turn himself in to police.
He was then charged with violating the conditions of his release and possessing a suspended driver’s license, said Sgt. Scott Wilcox of the Orono Police Department.
DeMuth was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Sunday afternoon.
DeMuth’s companion, Anthony Jabar, 20, of Waterville was summoned for possession of liquor by a minor. (Toni-Lynn Robbins, BDN)
