Police probe shooting in Presque Isle

PRESQUE ISLE – Presque Isle police are looking into a shooting that occurred over the weekend at an apartment in Presque Isle.

Police said that they could release few details about the incident, since the investigation is continuing.

Presque Isle police Officer Kevin Schumacher said the incident occurred just before 6:30 p.m. Friday inside a dwelling at 38 State St.

Robert Van Houten of Presque Isle was living at the residence, according to the officer.

Schumacher said that Steven Ouellette, age unavailable, of Augusta reportedly kicked in the door of the residence after a dispute.

He then was shot once in the abdomen by Van Houten, according to police.

Ouellette was taken by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center, but no further information on his condition was available Sunday evening.

No charges had been filed by early Sunday evening, according to Schumacher, who said more information would be forthcoming.
