BANGOR – Cassie Berry hit three singles and knocked in two runs to lead Husson College to a 7-6 college softball victory over Maine Maritime Academy on Monday.

Shannon Pietras tripled and drove in three runs for the Eagles, and Lindsay Mitchell had a single and two RBIs.

Nicole Poland hit three singles for the Mariners of Castine, and Darcy Herrick had two singles and two RBIs.

Bowdoin sweeps UMF

At Brunswick, the Polar Bears handed the University of Maine-Farmington its first losses of the season, sweeping a doubleheader 8-2 and 3-1.

In the first game, Jayme Woogerd singled three times and scored three runs while Alison Coleman had two singles and knocked in a pair of runs to pace Bowdoin.

Holly Tripp singled twice and drove in a run for the Beavers.

In the second game, Julia Jacobs scattered no earned runs and three hits while striking out seven in a complete-game effort for Bowdoin.

Kelly Overbye and Shavonne Lord each had an RBI single for the Polar Bears.

At Standish, the Monks piled up 14 runs on 25 hits to sweep a twinbill from Lyndon State, 10-2 and 4-0.

At Gorham, Auburn freshman Brady Blackman scattered seven hits and three runs over six innings and Penobscot’s Collin Henry went 3-for-3, including his fourth homer of the season, as the University of Southern Maine held off Colby.

Nick Vardaro hit a double and two singles for the Mules, while Chris Burleson, Joe McGhee, and Ryan Gaffney had two hits each. One of Burleson’s hits was a homer and he had two RBIs.

Chris Cooper had three hits for Colby, including a triple, and drove in three runs. Tom Salemy doubled and singled, and Corey Martin singled twice.

Dustin Spiller had two singles and two RBIs for the Monks while Chris Doughty and Ricky Sarmento doubled.

Reid Auger had two singles and a double for Bowdoin and Jon Koperniak singled twice and knocked in a run.
