Prom season and wedding bells are on the minds of many young people these days, and if you find yourself in some financial difficulty obtaining the perfect dress for that very special occasion, Aline, Annie and Emma Seekins of Searsport are eager to help you.

They invite you to visit Becca’s Closet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at First Congregational Church of Searsport.

The women are proud to announce “this is the first year they are an official chapter of Becca’s Closet,” which was founded to honor the memory of 16-year-old Florida teenager, Rebecca Kirtman, who died in a 2003 car accident.

The organization provides free gowns and accessories for those unable to afford them.

Aline Seekins wrote they “have hundreds of prom dresses and a dozen wedding gowns to share.”

The prom dresses range in size from 2 to 19, and come in “a variety of colors, styles and lengths,” she wrote.

The wedding dresses are sizes 8-12.

“The gowns are available without cost, no questions asked,” Seekins added.

Searsport is the third Becca’s Closet chapter in Maine, joining Greenville and Hodgdon, Seekins wrote.

If you have a new or gently-used gown you can donate to Becca’s Closet, call Seekins at 548-2449.

Johnna Lacey of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra called to let readers know that the BSO is dedicating its choral concert of Mozart’s “Requiem” to the late Mary Lou Colbath during the performance of its fifth classical concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Maine Center for the Arts in Orono.

Colbath, who died April 8 at age 72, was an active supporter of the BSO.

She served two terms as a member of the BSO board of directors, chaired the marketing committee, served as secretary of the executive committee, helped with many fundraising activities “and was a dedicated volunteer,” Lacey said.

Colbath was also the 2002 recipient of the BSO’s Peters-Miller Award for extraordinary service.

“Mary Lou loved the BSO,” Lacey said, “and we wanted to honor her with this dedication.”
