DeFilipp helps UMF gain sweep of Lyndon State

FARMINGTON – Sarah DeFilipp of Brewer allowed just two hits and one walk to lift the University of Maine-Farmington softball team to an 11-0 win over Lyndon State College in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday.

UMF won the second game 4-2.

In the first game, Holly Tripp singled and knocked in two runs for the Beavers. Kelly McDonough doubled and singled, and Lauren Overlock had two singles.

In the second game, Megan Goodrow had a double and two RBIs for UMF, and Porter added two singles. DeFilipp had a double and an RBI.

UNE wins two

At Henniker, N.H., the Nor’easters of Biddeford piled up 14 runs on 13 hits to sweep New England College 5-3 and 9-0.

In the first game, Megan Gaedje knocked in three runs on a pair of singles for the University of New England while Chelsea Cummings had a pair of singles.

In the second game, Caroline Engwer hit a solo homer and doubled to pace UNE. Sarah Hamel singled in a pair of runs and Gaedje doubled.

Baseball

Thomas, Husson split

At Waterville, Thomas College and Husson College split a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader, with the visiting Eagles of Bangor winning the first game 12-5 and the Terriers the second 4-3.

In the first game, Brian McGinley singled three times and drove in a run while Joe Robicheau knocked an RBI double for the winners. Andrew Patterson singled three times and doubled to drive in a run.

Matt Palvis doubled, singled, and scored two runs for Thomas.

In the second game, Michael Chamard doubled in two runs while Palvis doubled and singled to help the Terriers earn the split.

Aaron Bouyea allowed three runs on five hits in six innings to earn the win.

Adam Sheehan paced Husson with an RBI single.

UMF, Lyndon State split

At Farmington, Tyler Hanson hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to lead the University of Maine-Farmington past Lyndon State College 10-9 in the second game of their doubleheader. Lyndon State took the first game 5-3.

In the first game, Jake Ainsworth doubled and singled to drive in three runs for Lyndon State.

Corey Provencher had a double with two RBIs for UM-Farmington, and Hanson singled twice.

In the second game, Provencher hit a home run, two doubles, and a single to drive in four runs for the Beavers. Hanson doubled and singled to knock in two runs, and Phineas Peake doubled and singled.

At Lewiston, Andrew Stacy hit a double and two singles to drive in four runs and lead the University of Southern Maine of Gorham past Bates College.

Eddie Skeffington had a single and four RBIs for the Huskies. Ryan Bourque and Josh Stowell each homered with two RBIs. Max Arsenault had two doubles and a single with four runs scored.

Brian Buckley had three singles and a home run to drive in two runs for the Bobcats, and Brian Mahoney had four singles and two RBIs. Josh Linscott hit a double and two singles, and Denis Hogan doubled to knock in two runs.
