The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded $35,000 to the organizing committee for the 2007 American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront.

The money is part of an $873,500 package that the NEA awarded to 13 Maine arts programs last week. The festival must raise more than $1 million this year to host the three-day event.

The money will support the presentation of some 20 genres of music for the festival, which will be held in Bangor on Aug. 24-26.

The NEA grants help support projects that involve the creation and presentation of artistic work.
