A Bangor man was arrested Tuesday in Orono on a 9-year-old warrant for failing to appear in court on drug charges.
Michael Gillis, 28, likely would still be a free man if his brother had updated the inspection on the vehicle he was driving.
When Orono police Officer Jason Zalva noticed that the inspection sticker on the car driven by Gillis’ brother had expired last summer, Zalva pulled him over.
Michael Gillis was a passenger in the vehicle and Zalva requested both men’s identification.
When he ran Gillis’ name through the system, Zalva found the outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court for arraignment in January 1998 on drug trafficking charges.
Gillis was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Wednesday morning. He was scheduled to appear at 3rd District Court in Bangor later Wednesday.
Gillis’ brother was issued a ticket for the inspection violation, according to police reports. (Aimee Dolloff, BDN)
Anyone driving through or near Brewer who saw flames lighting up the horizon Wednesday night shouldn’t be alarmed. Brewer firefighters were training how to fight grass fires, according to Penobscot County Regional Dispatch.
