Bates, Cougars edge Eagles in 8 innings

EAST MILLIOCKET – Chelsea Bates slapped an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Katahdin of Stacyville softball team won its season-opener, 10-9 over Greater Houlton Christian Academy in high school action Tuesday.

Bates finished with three RBIs while Kaylie Rush added a triple for the Cougars.

Jessica Jago had a two-run single for Greater Houlton Christian.

At Limestone, Victoria St. Pierre belted a grand slam, two doubles and a single and finished with six RBIs as the Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics thumped Madawaska.

Melanie Allen smacked a home run, a single and drove in four runs for the Eagles. Julie Peers added two doubles, two singles and two RBIs.

Sarah Schlicher recorded two singles and two RBIs for the Owls.

At Brewer, Jordan McLain fired a complete-game one-hitter, striking out 13 and walking none, and she helped her own cause with a two-run homer as Brewer thumped Erskine of South China.

Allie Defilipp and Megan McLain tripled for the Witches.

Samantha Morse singled for the Eagles.

At Belfast, Lizzy Anderson knocked a two-run triple to cap a three-run fourth inning rally and lift Belfast past Maranacook of Readfield.

At Skowhegan, Sam Bedore and Sam Besse combined to give up four hits and struck out eight Skowhegan batters as the Rams downed the Indians.

Tawnya Godinez recorded three RBIs and a single, and Amy Hackett and Amy Wadleigh tallied two singles and an RBI apiece.

Megan Hancock belted a triple and a single for Skowhegan.

At Oakland, Lacey Littlefield allowed four hits and notched seven strikeouts to lead Hampden Academy past Messalonskee.

Ashley Gott doubled and singled for the Broncos while Kate Plowman added a double.

Juliana Fekete singled twice for the Eagles.

At Woodland, Julia Nichols had a double, two singles and a pair of RBIs to lead Woodland by Machias.

Bethany Greenlaw had three hits while Ariel Knights tripled and singled with four RBIs. Courtney Cochran added a double and two RBIs for the Dragons.

Alyssa Elliott had a two-run single for Machias.

At Waterville, Kyle McDonald doubled twice, singled and drove in a run to lead Mount View of Thorndike past Waterville.

Derek Keller had three singles and an RBI and Ben Raven a double and a single for the Mustangs.

Curtis Chaput knocked a two-run double for the Panthers while Eli Fitzgerald and Josh Gaudette each added a double.

At Belfast, three singles, two errors and a walk in the fourth inning led to five runs for Maranacook of Readfield and the Black Bears held on for the victory over the Lions.

Cony Palmer hit a two-run single in the fourth for the Bears.

Brian Cross singled twice, and Jake Arthers hit a two-run double in the sixth for Belfast.

At Brewer, Eric White belted a three-run double and Caleb Smith drove in three runs on two singles to lift Brewer past Erskine Academy.

White also hit a single and Bill Bissell notched a two-run single and a double for the Witches. Brad Brown had two singles and Jimmy McNair chipped in with an RBI single.

Nick Grady, Ike Pollard and Derek Derose hit a single apiece for the Eagles of South China.
