DAR chapter meets to honor Good Citizens

ORONO – Esther Eayres Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, held its annual DAR Good Citizens Recognition meeting on April 2 at the Church of Universal Fellowship.

Honored were high school seniors Ryan Grant of Old Town High School, son of Barbara Grant; Jessica Swindlehurst of Orono High School, daughter of Robert Swindlehurst and Liz Hennesy; and Kacey Plourde of Penobscot Valley High School, daughter of Ron and Heidi Plourde.

Chapter Regent Jane Whelden opened the proceedings and Carolyn Roach presented the honorees. School faculty selected each student on the basis of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Then each student wrote a patriotic essay for two hours without prior knowledge of the topic.

Honorees read their essays to the gathering of parents, friends and DAR members. Each student received a certificate and a pin.

The State DAR Good Citizen will be named on April 28 during the spring conference of the Maine DAR in Lewiston.
