The tragedy in Virginia, a recurring evil that engulfs and destroys so many young lives, is sadly familiar and even understandable.

Our society exports violence, as in Iraq. It merchandises violence in movies, television, and video games. It glorifies violence, equating gun culture with freedom and liberty. And so, violence abides here. America mourns, but does not change.
