Tickets will be sold in advance for the Business Women of Bangor fashion show, “BeDazzled.”
Angelia Levesque of the sponsoring local chapter of the American Business Women’s Association reports that event begins with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Spectacular Event Center, 395 Griffin Road in Bangor.
Tickets are $25 each, $50 for couples or $180 for a table for eight, and can be purchased by calling Deb White, 659-1264, or Patty Haverly-Johndro, 341-0662.
Levesque wants you to know that this year’s event features several honored guests including state Rep. Josh Tardy, and the chapter’s first scholarship recipient, Luna Raymond.
The fashion show is a fundraiser for this ABWA chapter that in the past two years has distributed more than $5,000 in scholarships.
“This year we will have something for everyone, with both male and female models,” Levesque added.
The show will feature fashions from Macy’s, Talbot’s, Henry’s Bridal, Millennium, Deb Shops, Dress Barn and The Grasshopper Shop.
Jewelry will be provided by Day’s Jewelers and J.R. Mitchell and Paul Dupuis will co-host the show.
The silent auction items include a strand of pearls from G.M. Pollack, an air conditioner from Dunnett’s, “and many more exciting items,” Levesque reported.
“May Day for Blood” is the title of a blood drive sponsored by G&H Ambulance Service from 1 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the Glenburn Fire Station, 144 Lakeview Drive.
Donna Healthcote reports “refreshments will be served and some door prizes will be offered,” adding that “every person donating becomes a local hero to those in need, as there is a critical shortage of blood.”

G&H Ambulance is a volunteer organization serving residents of Glenburn and Hudson.
Woodlawn Museum Executive Director Joshua Torrance announces Woodlawn opens for the season Tuesday, May 1, and that “May is for Mainers at Woodlawn,” Route 172 in Ellsworth.
During May, admission is half-price for Maine residents.
Tours of the site, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, are hourly, 1-4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, in May.

Laura Batchelder of Enfield, a student at Hichborn Middle School in Howland, has been chosen as a student ambassador for the People to People International program and hopes to spend 19 days this summer in Australia.
The cost for Laura to participate is $5,399, which she must submit by Saturday, May 5.
She still needs to raise $2,400 of that amount, her mother, Wendy Batchelder, told me.
Fundraisers have helped, but Laura could use your assistance in making this life-changing experience possible.

Maine Kids-Kin, which is a program of Families and Children Together in Bangor, announces it will host a Free Legal Education Round Table from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Washington County Children’s Program, located at 12 Steve’s Lane, off Route 192, in Marshfield.
The session is designed to help people raising a relative’s child or those who are working toward that goal.
Attendees will be able to talk with lawyers about guardianship, adoption and child-protective services.
