From Ethelyn Treworgy, president of Three Rivers Kiwanis Club of Milo and Brownville, we learn it is time for that organization’s seventh annual Variety Show at 7 p.m. Friday, May 4, in the Milo town hall.

Tickets at the door are $6 for adults, $4 for children and $20 for families.

Treworgy wrote the theme is Rock ‘n’ Roll, and expects it “to be a very exciting evening.”

The show features the elementary school Children’s Chorus directed by Stephanie Gillis; “Katie Robertson-Joyner and Val Robertson’s Penquis Valley High School and Key Club chorus, Milo area adult chorus” as well as a “group from Heartwise,” and a “rock band from the Milo Baptist Church.”

The show also features “several specialty acts,” showcasing “some of our very young and some of our older citizens that have talents discovered just in time for this show,” Treworgy wrote.

Proceeds benefit the Reading is Fundamental Program and the Library Kids Korner reading program for children residing in Atkinson, LaGrange, Milo and Brownville.

Deborah Butterwick provided information that the next fundraiser for the Hancock Grammar School Destination Imagination Team participating in May, in the DI Global Competition in Tennessee, is a spaghetti dinner, 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the grammar school on Route 1.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children and free for youngsters under 5.

Scott Burditt, William Bell and George Redman invite you to the Bangor High School Music Boosters Pops Night with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, at BHS on Broadway.

They promise an evening of fun, food, a great silent auction and fantastic music.

Tickets at the door are $5 each or $15 for families.

Guest soloist, Dr. David Demsey, joins the BHS Jazz Choir, BHS Jazz Bands, Bangor fiddlers, Middle School Jazz Bands and musical combos and soloists in a delightful evening of entertainment.

Proceeds benefit the music department and programs to enrich the education and lives of local pupils and students.

Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine reports former foster child and television actress Victoria Rowell will speak and sign her book, “THE Women Who Raised ME,” at 7 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Barnes and Noble Bookstore in Augusta.

Nancy Golding reports tickets are available for Bangor Noon Kiwanis Longaberger Basket Bingo with doors opening at noon and games beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Bangor Armory, 647 Main St.

Tickets are $10 for 15 games and two blackouts. Refreshments will be available.

Diana Richardson, president of Hampden Congregational Church, which is observing its 190th anniversary, reports reservations are required for a celebration dinner honoring Alice Hawes as its “Historian Emerita,” at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, which is hosting the dinner.

Continuing the anniversary celebration, The Rev. Dr. Bill Imes, president of Bangor Theological Seminary, will be guest preacher for a special worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 6, at Hampden Congregational Church. The public is invited.

Richardson wrote, “HCC has a special connection to BTS: In 1814 the seminary began as the Maine Charity School at Hampden Academy, and three years later, was instrumental in the founding of the congregation of HCC.”

Friends are planning a benefit dance for Donnie Parker, the longtime drummer of Orange River Jazz Band, also known as The Old Timers, who has been unable to work since last fall due to illness.

Alvin and Pat Hall report the dance is 8-11 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Wesley Grange Hall. The suggested donation is $10.

The fundraiser is being sponsored by the band and owners of the hall, Duane and Sheila Geel.

The Halls wrote that through the years, Parker “has willingly contributed his time and talents, on many occasions, for other worthy causes,” which is why they want “to do this for him.”
