Main Street in Corinth was closed for about an hour Wednesday afternoon while police negotiated with a man who was contemplating suicide, according to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.

At about 3:30 p.m., police responded to a call about a 42-year-old man from Corinth who was in front of his residence with a gun threatening to kill himself.

Maine State Police and Maine Game Wardens also responded.

As a precaution, police evacuated the True Value Hardware store and other area businesses and residences until the man was taken into protective custody. Police did not release the man’s name. He was not charged but was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for evaluation. (Emma Potvin, BDN)

Thieves took about $300 worth of frozen meat last week from a freezer that was stored in a homeowner’s garage on Bear Hill Road in Dover-Foxcroft.

A gold-colored bag full of cosmetics and about $15 in change that had been left inside a vehicle in the garage also was reported missing, according to Jeff Weatherbee of the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department.

Weatherbee said the items had a total value of about $1,000. (Diana Bowley, BDN)
