GORHAM – Kristina Grondin allowed no earned runs, four hits and two walks while striking out five to lead No. 5 University of Southern Maine past No. 6 Plymouth State University 4-2 in the Little East Conference double-elimination softball tournament Thursday.

The Huskies lost the first game 2-1 against Keene State College.

In the second game, Sabrina Sevigny singled twice to drive in two runs for the Huskies. Dawn Ross and Grondin each doubled and Christen Lachapelle tripled.

Rachel Pothier drove in a run for Plymouth State as Leanne Barry and Danielle Normand doubled.

In the first game, Jenna Patnode tripled and knocked in a run for Keene State.

Grondin singled and drove in a run for the Huskies.

UNE splits doubleheader

At Bristol, R.I., Jess Silvio tossed a no-hitter as the University of New England advanced in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament with a 12-0 shutout of New England College Thursday.

UNE lost the first game 4-2 to Curry College.

In the first game, Michaela O’Rourke had an RBI single for the Nor’easters.

In the second game, Sarah Hamel had a two-run home run as part of a six-run fourth for UNE.

Baseball

Babson 2, Southern Maine 0

At Babson, Mass., Ryan Campbell ended his final collegiate home game with three hits and the winning RBI as Babson College defeated the University of Southern Maine.

Adam Ross went seven innings in his first loss of the season, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts for the Huskies.
