The University of Maine’s concrete canoe team earned top honors for the second consecutive year at the American Society of Civil Engineers New England Reigonal Concrete Canoe Contest.
The squad faced 12 teams from schools throughout New England, and its latest boat ranked first overall after placing second in all categories.
They built, designed and raced a custom canoe made out of concrete.
The team will head to Seattle for the national competition on June 14. Team members will be seeking sponsors to cover the trip’s costs. Those interested in supporting the team should call captain Riley Adams at 735-5630.
