Kay’s no-hitter powers Cougars Katahdin pitcher strikes out 14

FORT FAIRFIELD – Andy Kay pitched a no-hitter, allowing one run on four walks while striking out 14, to lead the Katahdin of Stacyville baseball team to a 7-1 victory over Fort Fairfield Saturday in high school action.

Jared Anderson hit a double and two singles to drive in two runs for the Cougars and Billy Duffy added two singles and two RBIs.

Cody Closson scored for the Tigers.

Caribou, John Bapst split

At Presque Isle, John Bapst of Bangor scored seven runs in the seventh inning to defeat Caribou 16-14 in the second game. Caribou took the first game 13-3 in six innings.

In the first game, Pat Thibodeau had two singles and a double to drive in three runs for Caribou. Mike Doucette had two doubles and a single and Kyle Corrigan hit two singles and a double.

Nick Hubbard paced the Crusaders with two doubles and a single. Brock Bragdon doubled and singled and Casey Hull singled twice.

In the second game, Nick Smith and Bragdon both had two doubles and two RBIs for John Bapst. Hull hit two doubles and a single and Tyler King singled three times.

Thibodeau knocked in two runs on three singles for Caribou. Jon Noyes had two doubles and a single with an RBI and Justin Bouchard singled twice.

At Fort Fairfield, Kali Rush drove in five runs on a home run and two doubles as the Cougars of Stacyville rolled.

Katahdin’s Jasmine Pelletier homered and singled for two RBIs, while Kayla Stevens hit three singles and added an RBI.

Courtney Churchill singled three times for the Tigers and Sarah Hebert hit two singles and knocked in two runs.

At Mars Hill, Crystal Deschaine cranked a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to give the Crusaders the victory.

Lindsay Lajoie chipped in with two singles and an RBI for the winners.

Sarah Long hit a solo homer and singled for Central Aroostook of Mars Hill and Latisha Neece added a triple, two singles and two RBIs.

John Bapst sweeps Caribou

At Presque Isle, Danielle Richard struck out nine in two games to power the Crusaders of Bangor to doubleheader sweep of the Vikings, winning the first game 4-2 and the second 18-5.

In the first game, Whitney Sinclair had two singles and scored twice for John Bapst.

Kylee Landeen had two singles, a double and an RBI for Caribou.

In the second game, Sinclair, Abby Perkins and Marion Lawrence each had two hits in the sixth inning. Lawrence finished with three singles and a double while Sheila Toomey had two doubles and a single for the Crusaders.

Ali Richards hit a double and a triple for the Vikings.

At Houlton, Megan Korhonen scattered four hits and struck out 10 and helped her own cause with a home run and a single good for three RBIs as Greater Houlton Christian Academy beat Washburn.

Chelsea Lord and Kasey Parker each doubled and singled for the Eagles.

Amy Reed slammed a three-run homer for the Beavers.

At Lincoln, Bree Hanscom tripled and singled to drive in two runs and power Mattanawcook Academy past Mount Desert Island of Bar Harbor.

Michelle Paul had three singles and an RBI for the Lynx. Brooke Hanscom and Melissa West both doubled and singled.

Deni Nicastro allowed one run on four hits while striking out nine and not allowing a walk.

Miranda McIntire tripled and singled with an RBI to pace the Trojans and Chelsea Bothen singled and scored.
