A Brewer man was stopped for speeding on his motorcycle Sunday, and ended up arrested. Cpl. Paul Gauvin of the Brewer Police Department smelled alcohol when he stopped Louis N. Burrows, 50, at about 9:30 p.m., according to a police report. Burrows also was driving on a conditional license, which meant he could not consume any alcohol before driving. Burrows was charged with operating without a license and taken to Penobscot County Jail. (Emma Potvin, BDN)
After investigating and clearing a complaint against Vernus Mayhew, 26, Brewer police officer Liz Kelley parked her cruiser near the local hotel where Mayhew was staying. When she saw him drive away from the hotel at about 8 a.m. Monday, Kelley, knowing Mayhew’s license to drive had been suspended, pulled him over. Once stopped, Mayhew got out of the car and said, “Let’s get it done, arrest me,” according to the police report.
As Kelley handcuffed him she also reportedly smelled alcohol on his breath. Mayhew was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and with driving after his license had been revoked for being a habitual offender. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail. (Emma Potvin, BDN)
