Tidbits

Signed, sealed, delivered

This weekend, while you’re out stuffing your mailbox full of letters, why not put a bag full of nonperishable items next to your mailbox, too. On Saturday, May 12, the National Association of Letter Carriers will hold its 15th annual Stamp Out Hunger! event. Letter carriers nationwide will collect donations for members of America’s Second Harvest food bank network in more than 10,000 communities. According to America’s Second Harvest, 35 million people are food insecure, hungry or at risk of hunger. Approximately one in four people in a soup kitchen line is a child. To help with the effort, Campbell’s Soup will donate 1 million pounds of food. For information about Stamp Out Hunger!, ask your letter carrier, contact your local post office or visit www.helpstampouthunger.com.

Momtinis

Of course, Mom would never tell you, but Opus in Bangor wants you to know: what she really wants this year is a martini and an early dinner. To that end, chef Roger Gelis will serve up a four-course meal from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Among the menu highlights are Fried Oysters with Thai Mango Catsup and Daikon Slaw; Asparagus and Smoked Salmon with Avocado Mousse and Brioche Toast; Pan Roasted Halibut with Shrimp Risotto and Tapenade; and a dessert buffet by pastry chef Eric Goodale. The meal costs $42 per person plus tax and gratuity. For reservations, 945-5100. For information, visit www.opusme.com.
