Golf Day for girls
HERMON – LPGA-USGA Girls Golf and Abnaki Girl Scout Council have scheduled the kick-off for the 2007 LPGA-USGA Girls Golf program 1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the playing fields at Hermon High School, 2415 Route 2.
At the opening session, girls will play SNAG golf, a program for novice golfers aimed at getting them used to playing with golf equipment specially designed to help girls connect with the ball.
At least 16 sessions will be scheduled throughout the summer, days and evenings, through August. Sites include Hermon Meadows Golf Club and the Penobscot Valley Country Club, among others.
Instructors include Thea Davis, golf professional at Hermon Meadows; Lori Frost, golf professional at PVCC and two-time Maine amateur champion; and Martha White, 13-time Maine amateur champion.
“We hope to expand our reach and elevate girls’ enthusiasm towards the game of golf,” said Cathy Willey, program coordinator.
The event is open to girls between the ages of 7 to 17 who want to learn more about golf. LPGA-USGA Girls Golf provides an opportunity for girls to learn to play golf, build lasting friendships and experience competition in a fun, supportive environment.
Since its inaugural year in 1999, LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Day has been an annual event.
