John P. Poulin of WBRC Architects Engineers of Bangor and Sarasota, Fla., has been promoted to manager of the structural engineering department. He has more than 10 years of experience in the field of engineering and was previously a senior structural engineer at Boston Building Consultants in Boston. In addition to new construction, Poulin is experienced in the adaptive reuse of existing buildings and the structural stabilization of historic buildings. Poulin graduated from the University of Maine with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering in 1994 and a master of science degree in civil engineering in 2001. He is a registered professional engineer in Maine, Massachusetts and Florida. “My wife and I are excited to return to Maine after leaving 10 years ago. Bangor offers [a] high quality life – great schools, low cost of living, low crime and no traffic – that my wife and I want for our young family,” Poulin said. His recently completed and new design projects include: the MDI Biological Laboratory, Penn National Gaming’s casino and buildings at Hollywood Slots, the Superior Court facility, the new Brewer public safety building, Orono Public Library and the new Meeting House at Husson College in Bangor.
Tavis Stewart was recently hired as the new superintendent of greens at Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono. Originally from Washington, D.C., he earned a bachelor’s degree at Virginia Tech in crop and soil environmental science with a turf option. For two years, he served as second assistant at Winged Foot, site of the 2006 U.S. Open. Most recently, he worked for five years as the first assistant at Aronimink Golf Club, a Donald Ross-designed course outside Philadelphia. “Penobscot Valley Country Club has one of the most intact Donald Ross courses I’ve ever seen. It’s a tremendous golf course and the main reason I’m here,” Stewart said. “And it looks like PVCC is poised to make a lot of great changes in the near future. I’m glad to be part of it and excited for the challenge.” Stewart’s immediate plans for PVCC are to work on the health and speed of the greens and get them back to championship condition. Stewart and his wife, Amy, have a 3-year-old daughter, Torrance.
Veazie resident Tom Drummond, a medical representative for Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. of Nutley, N.J., has been given the company’s Special Achievement Award for 2006. Drummond received the award for his commitment to patient care and outstanding sales performance, the company said. It was the seventh year he has received the award. Hoffmann-La Roche is the U.S. pharmaceuticals unit of the Roche Group, which develops products and services aimed at the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
