In 1892, five local doctors founded the Bangor General Hospital. The five-bed facility was established in the Mace House, a handsome stone building on the grounds of what is now Eastern Maine Medical Center. The building, now called Graystone, is still in use. Over the years, many more structures have been added to the hospital campus:

1899 A new brick building is erected for additional patient rooms.

1923 The Stodder Laboratory is added.

1939 The Kelley Building provides more patient rooms.

1948 The Blaisdell Building adds space for another 71 patient beds.

1959 The Haskell “New Diagnostic and Treatment Building” is erected.

1963 The “Doctors Office Building,” now called the Stetson Building, is added.

1974 The Grant Building is erected, with clinical and administrative areas.

1987 Webber East is completed, adding additional clinical and administrative space.

2002 The Kagan Building is added to house outpatient services.

2003 Webber West opens with space for clinical and laboratory operations.
