Lincoln firefighters tackle brush fire, crash

LINCOLN – Firefighters did double duty, handling back-to-back incidents of a brush fire and car accident, that had them running continuously for about two hours Thursday.

The brush fire scorched about half an acre between a garage and excavation area owned by Gardiner & Sons Inc. on River Road, firefighters said. Two Lincoln Fire Department trucks and 11 firefighters responded at 12:22 p.m. and reported the fire under control at about 1 p.m., firefighters said.

They were still mopping up the fire scene when a car slammed into a telephone pole, breaking the pole in half, on Main Street in North Lincoln just past Sweet Road at about 1:30 p.m., firefighters said.

The driver of the car, Brandon Berg, was treated at Penobscot Valley Hospital and released, firefighters and police said. His address, age and the extent of his injuries were not immediately available.

Sgt. James Slauenwhite is handling the investigation. He was off Friday, a police spokeswoman said.
