1/13/2000 Unity, six-year-old triplets, playing with cigarette lighter. Unity Fire Chief Bob Jones collapses and dies at fire scene
1/11/99 Surry, Father, Mother and Adult son, cause unknown
5/31/98 Madison, Father and two children, cause unknown
4/23/97 Lewiston, Father and two children, accidental
9/5/94 Kittery, Mother and two children, smoking
2/3/93 Augusta, Mother and two children, stove burner left on
6/19/93 New Sweden, Mother and two children, electrical short circuit
1/23/92 Kittery, two men and a woman, smoking
12/3/92 Portland, four dead in apt. house , arson/homicide
2/18/91 Topsham, three adults, combustibles too close to wood stove
6/7/90 Milo, three dead, children playing with matches or lighter
10/26/90 Corinna, four dead, one adult & 3 children, smoking
MAINE’S WORST FIRES SINCE 1945
1/31/45 Auburn, 17 killed, one nurse and 16 infants at Le Coste Baby Home.
1947 Forest fires, 15 killed and over 200,000 acres burned.
Damage over $30 million dollars.
7/4/67 Oxford, eight killed, 3 adults and 5 children
3/2/50 Monson, eight killed, 2 adults and 6 children
3/27/60 Winthrop, six killed, a mother and 5 children
11/30/74 Eagle Lake, seven killed, a mother and 6 children
9/20/84 Hartland, five killed, one adult & 4 children
