Maine’s deadliest fires since 1945:

January 31, 1945, LeCoste Baby Home in Auburn kills one nurse and 16 infants

1947 forest fires kills 15 and burns over 200,000 acres, damage over $30 million

March 2, 1950, Monson house fire kills eight (two adults and six children)

July 4, 1967, Oxford house fire kills eight (three adults and five children)

November 30, 1974, Eagle Lake, house fire kills seven (mother and six children) March 27, 1960, Winthrop house fire kills six (mother and five children)

September 20, 1984, Hartland house fire kills five (one adult and four children)
