More storm disaster relief centers to open

SCARBOROUGH – Additional disaster recovery centers will open in Maine this week to help individuals and businesses that had losses in the severe April storms and flooding.

The Maine Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency will open fixed disaster relief centers in Portland and Wells and operate several mobile facilities that will visit municipalities throughout York and Cumberland counties.

Fixed sites will open Tuesday at Portland Arts and Technology High School and Wednesday at York County Community College in Wells.

Mobile relief centers will operate on various days this week and into next week in Alfred, Bridgton, Freeport, New Gloucester, Saco, Sanford, Standish, Waterboro and South Berwick.

Representatives of state, federal and volunteer agencies will be at each site to answer questions and provide recovery information. People who suffered losses are encouraged to register for assistance by calling (800) 621-3362 or going online to the FEMA Web site before visiting a relief center.

Damage in Maine is estimated in the tens of millions of dollars from the storm that pounded southern and coastal areas on Patriot’s Day weekend.
