Lubec Consolidated School
Peter Doak, principal of Lubec Consolidated School, has announced honor parts for the Class of 2007.
Cassandra Noelle Rier, daughter of Shawn and Chrisann Tinker of Lubec and Jon Cota of Newport, has been named co-valedictorian. She plans to attend the University of Maine at Fort Kent to study pediatric nursing.
She has been class president her four years at Lubec Consolidated School, played volleyball four years, a member of student council for three years, in travel club for two years, and a participant in Big Brothers Big Sisters, Maine Youth Voices and community volunteer projects.
Paige Case, daughter of Bill and Julie Case of Lubec, has been named co-valedictorian for the Class of 2007. She will attend the University of Maine in Orono to study biological engineering.
She has been involved in many school and community affairs, including National Honor Society, student council, varsity basketball and golf, school band, interactive and community theater. She has been a volunteer at the local food pantry. Case is active in the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, holding both state and local offices. She is the 2007 recipient of the Principal’s Leadership Award.
Kayla Corey, daughter of Sonja Bailey of Lubec and John Corey of Whiting, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2007. She plans to attend the University of Maine at Fort Kent to study nursing.
She has participated in varsity volleyball and basketball four years, Maine Youth Voices, National Honor Society and Ski Club for three years.
Victoria Lauren Munson, daughter of Sherry and Loring Munson Jr. of Lubec, has been named first honor essayist for the Class of 2007. She plans to attend the University of Maine at Fort Kent to study nursing.
She was the basketball manager for the varsity girls and boys teams for four years, a member of the ski club and travel club for two years, and was inducted into the National Honor Society her junior year.
Machias Memorial High School
Machias Memorial High School Principal Tim Reynolds has announced the honor parts for the graduating Class of 2007.
Commencement exercises will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 3, at the Machias Memorial High School gymnasium.
Meredith Cherry, daughter of James and Jean Cherry of Machias, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2007. She will study political science at the University of Maine in Orono.
Cherry has participated in athletics, music and drama as well as student government at Machias Memorial High School. She is a member of the Model State Team, which participates in the Youth in Government Program in Augusta each year, and is involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Alaina Albee, daughter of Geary and Susan Albee of Marshfield, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2007. She will attend the University of Maine in the fall.
Albee has participated in athletics, music and drama and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is involved with the Early College Program offered through the high school. She recently participated in the Close Up Washington Program in Washington, D.C.
Bucksport High School
Bucksport High School Principal Tom Sullivan has announced the honor parts for the graduating Class of 2007. Graduation will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 8, at the Ralph Jewett Gymnasium, Bucksport High School.
David Cooper, son of Calvin and Carol Cooper of Prospect, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2007. He will attend Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa., as a member of the R.J. Fellows Honors Program.
He has participated in the Bucksport High School chorus and jazz choir; played trumpet in the school and jazz bands; and will play trumpet in the All State band. He has been active in the drama club and named co-president senior year.
Cooper played soccer and basketball for four years and was named co-captain of the varsity soccer team senior year. He has competed as a witness of Bucksport’s mock trial team, has been active as president of the National Honor Society and as classroom volunteer at Bucksport Middle School. He has participated, with his English class, in a reading-writing exchange program with kinder-first pupils at Miles Lane School in Bucksport. As a junior, he was selected as a delegate to Dirigo Boys State and was awarded the Outstanding Citizen Award from his town, named a D.A.R. Outstanding American History Student and a National Merit Scholarship finalist.
Monica Minson, daughter of Frederick and Janice Minson of Verona Island, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2007. She will attend Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in New York to study plant sciences.
During her four years at Bucksport High School, she has been involved with student council, band, jazz band, mock trial, math team, Dirigo Girls State, National Honor Society and outdoor track. She was co-captain of the varsity cross country and indoor track teams and set a school record for girls indoor 200-meter dash. She was a member of the Brewer-based Sub5 Track Club.
Minson participated in the outing club as a hiker exploring Zion National Park, Big Bend National Park and the Grand Canyon.
Lindsey Gordon, daughter of John and Denise Gordon of Bucksport, has been named first honor essayist for the Class of 2007. She will attend Emerson College in Boston to study communication sciences and disorders.
She has been secretary and vice president of her class, a founding member of the civil rights team, band, jazz band, outing club, National Honor Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the reading-writing exchange program. During her junior year she was a delegate to Dirigo Girls State.
Gordon has been a member of the Maine Soccer Coaches Association All-Eastern Maine Team for three years, played in the senior bowl all-star game. She recently was named a state finalist for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award and a member of the McDonald’s Maine All-Academic basketball team.
Jennifer Michelle Pelletier, daughter of Mike and Kathy Pelletier of Bucksport, has been named second honor essayist for the Class of 2007. She will attend the University of Maine at Farmington to study secondary education with a concentration in social studies.
She participated in the civil rights and math teams. She has been a member of the school’s chess team for the last three years and during her senior year served as chess team captain. During her junior year she was a delegate to Dirigo Girls State.
