Schools Houlton High School

Marty Bouchard, principal of Houlton High School, has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2007.

Peter M. Hagan, son of Gary and Margaret Hagan of Houlton, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2007. He will attend Dartmouth College.

He is vice president of the National Honor Society, a Principal’s Award honors student and the Houlton High School Maine Principal’s Award recipient. He received the sophomore English Award, the Phi Beta Kappa Award and placed first in the annual science fair his sophomore and senior years.

Hagan attended Dirigo Boys State, was a member of the math team, served on the contract committee and has been a band member. He served as class president sophomore and senior years, senior class treasurer, and is a member of the student council now serving as president.

He has been a member of the varsity golf team for four years serving as captain junior and senior years. During his junior year, he was named All-State Golf Honorable Mention. He is a four-year member of the varsity tennis team and was captain his junior year. He has been a junior golf volunteer for four years, has done service learning and tutoring, and has been a Community Living volunteer.

Mariah E. Crane, daughter of Mark Crane and Patricia Hersey of Houlton, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2007. She will attend the University of Maine in Orono and is enrolled in the Honors College.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, a Principal’s Award honor student, and the recipient of the Society of Women Engineers Certificate of Achievement. She served as freshman class secretary, has been a student council member for three years, a member of the photography club and has been on the civil rights team.

Crane has been in the jazz ensemble, show choir, chamber choir and has been a cast member of the school musical for four years. She is a member of the varsity tennis team, the junior varsity and varsity soccer teams and has been a member of the varsity cheerleading squad.

She is employed at the Houlton Recreation Department and Just For Kids summer program. She has been an Out of the Darkness committee member and a volunteer in the community walk for suicide prevention.

Rhyanna J. Anderson, daughter of Dr. Thomas and Pamela Anderson of Houlton, has been named first honor essayist for the Class of 2007. She will attend Lesley College.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, a Principal’s Award honor student, and received the English Award. She is a member of the civil rights team, the journalism club and has been a member of the chemistry club. She is a four-ear member of the band and chorus and participated in the production of the school musical for three years.

Anderson is employed by the Houlton Recreation Department and the Just For Kids Summer Program and has done volunteer work through the National Honor Society.

Samuel D. Carter, son of David and Miriam Carter of New Limerick, has been named second honor essayist for the Class of 2007. He will attend Colby College.

He is treasurer of the National Honor Society, a Principal’s Award honor student, received the Williams College Book, was elected senator at Dirigo Boys State. He was treasurer of the student council, a member of the Spanish club and the civil rights team.

He played soccer for four years, is captain of the ice hockey team, was voted a member of the Eastern Maine Class B Hockey Academic All-Star Team, received the Ice Hockey Good Sportsmanship award and was a member of the 2006 Eastern Maine Class B Ice Hockey Runners-up. He has played tennis for four years and was on the All-Aroostook team for two years.

He is a four-year band member and has been section leader his junior and senior years. He is a member of the Symphonic Band and Percussion Ensemble, a jazz choir accompanist and was a cast member in the school musical “Annie Get Your Gun.” He received a third place award in the 2006 Maine Music Educators’ Association State Instrumental Jazz Festival and received first place in the senior ensemble division of the 2006 Houlton High School Talent Show.

He has served as an Aroostook Teen Leadership Camp student staff member, a Big Brother administrative team committee member and an administrative board member. He has volunteered at Just For Kids Summer Parks and Recreation Program, has been a Southern Aroostook Minor Hockey Association referee and is a member of the Houlton Parks and Recreation Department youth staff.
