HARWICH, Mass. – The No. 3 Williams College baseball team jumped out to a three-run lead in the second inning and held off Saint Joseph’s of Standish 12-7 Thursday to end the Monks’ run in the NCAA New England Regional in an imination game at Whitehouse Field.
The Monks fell to Eastern Connecticut 10-2 in their first game of the tournament Wednesday night.
In Thursday’s game, Paul Morgan led the Ephs with an RBI double and two two-run singles with a run scored. Chad Brown notched four doubles and three runs scored and Ryan Fote added three hits, two runs scored and an RBI.
Dustin Spiller and Chris Doughty each drove in two runs for Saint Joseph’s. Ben Grant-Roy added a double, single and two runs scored, and Luke Enman chipped in with two singles.
In Wednesday’s game, Eastern Connecticut took advantage of three home runs and four Saint Joseph errors.
Randy Re hit a two-run homer in the third for the Warriors, winning pitcher Shawn Gilblair hit a three-run shot in the seventh, and Melvin Castillo followed Gilblair with a solo homer.
Wade Oliver led the Monks with two singles and an RBI, Doughty added a double and single, and Mark Clapp had two singles.
