Members of the Dover-Foxcroft Historical Society need your help.

Carmen Smith wrote that the group “needs to raise funds to repair the Blacksmith Shop and Observer Museum buildings” in that community.

The group will hold its second annual attic and book sale on Saturday, June 2, at the Dover-Foxcroft fire station, and your donation of items would be most appreciated.

Smith reports free pickup is available. The fundraiser also includes a raffle to be drawn that day. To purchase raffle tickets, call 564-2178.

Items already in the sale include a Moosehead furniture mirror, a twin-size comforter, a framed picture of Sebec Lake and a bird feeder with seeds, Smith wrote.

Smith also wants readers to know that “Louis Stevens will narrate a bus tour of Old Dover beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Observer Museum building.”

Tickets are $5 and seating is limited. Tickets can be obtained by calling 564-0820.

Lucille Cardin reports that the Veazie Congregational Church is holding two sales from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the church at 1404 State St. in Veazie.

You can find growing things at the plant sale and goodies to eat at the bake sale.

On behalf of St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, Lisa Chambers invites you to its yard sale 8 a.m.-noon today at the church at 21 Holyoke St. in Brewer.

“We will have many items including Avon collectibles” as well as “Barbie items, clothing and furniture,” she wrote.

All proceeds benefit St. Patrick’s Outreach Ministries.

Katherine Kates and members of the board of directors of Peace through Interamerican Community Action invite you to a membership meeting 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at PICA, 170 Park St. in Bangor.

On the agenda is discussion of the current condition of the organization’s budget, which is expected to force a reduction in paid staff, with the hope that the situation will lead to greater volunteer involvement, Kates explained in a letter to PICA Friends.

The meeting also will offer an update on the fair and local food project, which will need the support of PICA members.

Kates urges your attendance and participation and reminds you that “the traditional chocolate teaser will be there, too.”

Robin Dow reports that a Country Music Sunday Jamboree 1-6 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Thompson’s Community Center on Route 131 in Union will benefit the Vicky E. Morgan Foundation.

Admission for the concert, which features several country music personalities, is $8 and includes door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and snacks for purchase.

With the theme of “Proudly Honoring our Servicemen, Servicewomen and Veterans,” proceeds from the concert will benefit the foundation that is “dedicated to helping others” and “serving those in need,” according to information provided by Dow.

What a terrific afternoon is in store for all who attend the Fixin’ the Steeple Benefit Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at First Congregational Church in East Machias.

According to information provided by event organizers, the historic meeting house, which dates to 1836, will not only “ring with music” but will offer all who attend the opportunity to visit this treasured landmark that sits “high above the East Machias River.”

Appearing for your musical entertainment and enjoyment will be Nancy Knight, The Balkanistas, The Perry Pickups, Duane Ingalls and Gene Nichols.

Admission is by donation.

Maine Association of Retirees executive board member Mary Richard reminds its 15,000 members that the 2007 annual meeting begins with registration at 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, at the Civic Center Auditorium in Augusta.

The guest speaker is Dr. Marilyn Gugliucci, newly elected president of the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education.

For 19 years, Dr. Gugliucci has worked on elder-related issues and with older adults at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at University of New England in Biddeford.
