Stephen J. Daniels of Crystal is right to be concerned about the Mexican truckers issue, “Trucks from Mexico” (BDN, May 12). As of May 1, 100 Mexican trucking firms have been approved to drive anywhere in America. Every one of Mr. Daniels’ fears is valid. He asks us to contact our elected officials to keep the borders closed. But he is, as the saying goes, a day late and a dollar short.
The opening of the United States to truckers is only one of many steps in implementing the North American Union – the counterpart to the European Union – established by Paul Martin of Canada, Vicente Fox of Mexico, and our own George W. Bush at a meeting in spring 2005. Congress never ratified this decision. The media never carried it. But information is freely available on the Internet. Thank you, Google.
The eventual plan will have us sharing one “perimeter” border, one flag, one constitution, one military, and one currency (the “amero,” like the euro). Unlike the EU, which is composed of comparable first-world countries, we will be on an unequal footing with Mexico, given the huge disparity in GDP: $31,000 for us versus $4,900 for them.
Uneasy? By all means, contact your elected officials. It’s not too late to stop the rest of this lunacy.
