BREWER – Jordan McLain hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Brewer to a 1-0 high school softball victory over Skowhegan on Monday.
McLain pitched nine innings, earning a two-hit shutout with a school-record 16 strikeouts for the Witches.
Dominique Defilipp hit three singles, while Sarah Risser added a pair of singles for Brewer.
Brittany Gould and Emily Hodgdon each had a single for Skowhegan.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Catie Cravens pitched five innings, allowing one hit with 13 strikeouts, to lead Ellsworth to a 13-1 victory over Foxcroft in the first game of a doubleheader.
Ellsworth defeated the Ponies 16-0 in the second game.
In the first game, Maggie Seavey hit a three-run triple as part of a seven-run fifth inning for Ellsworth.
Courtney Withee had a single for Foxcroft Academy.
In the second game, Emily Miller struck out 10 in five innings for the Eagles. Tessa Rockwood had a two-run triple.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Nick Lancisi’s two-run homer capped a four-run fourth inning that erased a 4-1 deficit and the Ponies scored the winning run in the sixth on a hit batter, an intentional walk, a passed ball, and a balk as Foxcroft rallied past the Eagles.
Tyler Weymouth pitched four innings of two-hit, one-run relief to pick up the win, striking out one and not walking anybody.
Lancisi also had a double, while Josh Conroy had a run-scoring double and a single, and Abe Landry singled twice.
Tyler Salsbury hit a two-run homer for the Eagles, Nick Hunnewell had a solo homer and a single, and Eric Folmer had a double, single, and RBI.
