ASHLAND – Justin Belanger’s single in the ninth inning scored Isaac Ward with the winning run to lift Ashland past Katahdin of Stacyville 9-8 in high school baseball action Tuesday.

Ward hit an RBI single in the ninth to tie the game at eight for Ashland.

Tyler Cote hit three singles while Jeremy Tarr added a double and a single with an RBI for the Hornets.

Evan McCarthy doubled and singled with three RBIs while Josh McGraw and Ethan Qualey each had two singles and an RBI for the Cougars.

At Millinocket, Chris Howland hit a single and drove in three runs to help lead Houlton past Stearns.

Ricky Stairs singled twice with an RBI while Hunter Caron added a triple for the Shiretowners.

Paul Rucci had a pair of singles for the Minutemen.

John Bapst sweeps Presque Isle

At Bangor, Nick Smith scored on an error in the bottom of the 10th as the Crusaders edged the Wildcats 5-4 in the opening game of a doubleheader at Husson College’s Winkin Complex. Bapst took the second game 9-3.

In the first game, Crusader reliever Nick Hubbard struck out nine and allowed just two hits with no walks in 8 1/3 innings. Casey Hull hit two doubles and a single while Alex Yates added a two-run single.

Logan York paced Presque Isle with a triple, and Dan McCue had two singles.

In the second game, Hull led John Bapst with a double and a single and his third stolen base of the doubleheader. Jon Gagnon singled twice and drove in a run while Chris Smith had an RBI single.

Seven different players each hit a single for the Wildcats.

At Ashland, Ronni Robinson hit a three-run triple to spark a five-run second inning as Katahdin of Stacyville rolled to the win.

Kayla Stevens knocked a pair of RBI doubles while Jasmine Pelletier doubled and singled for the Cougars.

Macy Pelky singled twice, tripled, and knocked in two runs for the Hornets while Taylor Baker had three singles and an RBI.

Kelly Lynch led the Tigers with an RBI single.

At Hampden, two-out, run-scoring singles by Nellie Wood and Michelle Wells in the bottom of the seventh rallied the Broncos past Bangor.

It was Hampden Academy’s second 2-1 win over Bangor this season.

Kate Plowman and Lacey Littlefield had one-out singles to start the rally and Mikki Libbey put down a sacrifice before Wood and Wells delivered.

Tawnya Godinez tripled and scored on Sam Besse’s single in the second for Bangor’s run.

Wells and Littlefield combined on a seven-hitter, striking out six and walking three.

Wood had a triple and two singles, Ashley Gott doubled and singled, and Wells singled twice for Hampden Academy.

Godinez had a single to go with her triple. Besse and Courtney Stevenson had two singles each.

Besse hurled a 10-hitter. She struck out four and didn’t walk anybody.
