The University of Maine’s Tal Shpaizer has been named one of three finalists for the America East Woman of the Year award along with Binghamton University’s Megan Hoag and Boston University’s Marisa Ryan.

Shpaizer, who had a 3.95 GPA, was named MVP of the UMaine women’s swimming and diving team the last two seasons. She was third in the 200-yard backstroke, tenth in the 200 individual medley, and 11th in the 100 butterfly at the America East championship meet. She holds school records in the 100 fly and 200 IM, and is a member of two record-setting relay teams.

The award honors the AE’s senior female student-athlete who best exemplifies a commitment to service, leadership, athletics and academics during her college career.

The award winner will be announced June 12.
