Wood, Wells RBIs in 7th rally Broncos past Rams

HAMPDEN – Two-out, run-scoring singles by Nellie Wood and Michelle Wells in the bottom of the seventh rallied Hampden Academy to a 2-1 high school softball victory over Bangor on Tuesday.

It was the Broncos’ second 2-1 win over Bangor this season.

Kate Plowman and Lacey Littlefield had one-out singles to start the rally and Mikki Libbey put down a sacrifice before Wood and Wells delivered.

Tawnya Godinez tripled and scored on Sam Besse’s single in the second for Bangor’s run.

Wells and Littlefield combined on a seven-hitter, striking out six and walking three.

Wood had a triple and two singles, Ashley Gott doubled and singled, and Wells singled twice for Hampden Academy.

Godinez had a single to go with her triple. Besse and Courtney Stevenson had two singles each.

Besse hurled a 10-hitter. She struck out four and didn’t walk anybody.

At Millinocket, Christine O’Toole pitched a six-hitter and Stearns teammate Deanna Michaud took care of the offense with a three-run homer in the sixth, a triple, a single, and four RBIs.

Amy Collinsworth hit two singles and Shannon Somers hit a two-run single for the Minutemen.

Nikki Eastman singled twice for the Shiretowners.

At Bangor, Jillian French allowed one run on four hits with 11 strikeouts to lead Bangor Christian by Jonesport-Beals.

Kelly Robinson had an RBI single for the Patriots.

Tina Beal had a double and a single for the Jonesport-Beals.

At Brewer, Jordan McLain improved to 8-2 with a four-hitter through six innings, seven strikeouts, and no walks.

Sister Meghan McLain led the Witches’ offense, going 4-for-4 with three singles, a double, and three RBIs. Leah Jackson had a triple, double and four RBIs. Stacey Gomm and Allie Defilipp each singled twice.

Heather Gilman paced Lawrence of Fairfield with a triple and a single.

At Hermon, Ashley Kelley spun a five-inning no-hitter for the Hawks, striking out 10 and not walking anybody.

Kelley aided her cause with a two-run triple, and Lily Barry connected for a grand slam and two-run double for the Hawks. Amanda Page added a double.

At Lee, Aarika Ritchie tripled, singled, drove in a run, and scored twice to lead Lee Academy by Woodland.

Dana Houghton, Amanda Gifford and Morgan McGaw each hit a pair of singles. Houghton had two RBIs for the Pandas while Gifford had one.

Ariel Knights doubled and singled with an RBI while Julia Nicholas added a two-run single for the Dragons.

At Greenville, Leslie Harris hit a triple, a single, and a home run and drove in four runs for the Lakers.

Greenville erupted for 12 runs in the first inning to take the early lead.

Lauren Fling added a home run and a single while Brittany Boucher and Mackenzie Wyman each hit two singles for Greenville.

Sara Mack hit four singles while Sue Ann Shiffer had three for the Beavers.

At Orono, Michelle Chapman pitched seven innings allowing seven hits with eight strikeouts for Dexter to earn the shutout over Orono.

Becky Johnson had two singles while Chapman added a two-run double for the Tigers.

Sara Pavento had a pair of singles for Orono.

At Hampden, Alex Gallant’s two-run homer and Gordie Webb’s two-run double highlighted a 12-run third inning that erased a 2-0 deficit and provided Bangor with its 25th consecutive victory.

It is the seventh time in 14 games the Rams have ended a game with the 10-run rule.

Gallant had a single to go with his homer, Shane Walton doubled and singled, and Kyle Vanidestine and Ryan Larochelle each singled twice.

Walton and Larochelle each had an RBI.

Joel Neill, Nolan Turner, and Shawn Smith had RBI doubles for the Broncos.

Swett singled twice and knocked in two runs while Brad Brown had two singles, a double, and two RBIs for the Witches. Shun Sasaki had a pair of RBI singles.

Jim Melcher knocked an RBI single for Lawrence of Fairfield.

John Bapst sweeps Presque Isle

At Bangor, Nick Smith scored on an error in the bottom of the 10th as the Crusaders edged the Wildcats 5-4 in the opening game of a doubleheader at Husson College’s Winkin Complex. Bapst took the second game 9-3.

In the first game, Crusader reliever Nick Hubbard struck out nine and allowed just two hits with no walks in 8 1/3 innings. Casey Hull hit two doubles and a single while Alex Yates added a two-run single.

Logan York paced Presque Isle with a triple, and Dan McCue had two singles.

In the second game, Hull led John Bapst with a double and a single and his third stolen base of the doubleheader. Jon Gagnon singled twice and drove in a run while Chris Smith had an RBI single.

Seven different players each hit a single for the Wildcats.

J.T. Kelleher paced Woodland with three singles and an RBI while Marc McLellan doubled, singled, and knocked in a run.

At Hermon, Tim Kennerson allowed seven hits and one run in five innings and hit a two-run single to lead Hermon past Mount Desert Island.

Brian Day hit an RBI triple and a single for the Hermon Hawks. Zach Deabay had two singles and two RBIs, and Travis Estes had two singles.

Ben Clark singled twice for the Trojans. Brett Mitchell added an RBI single.

John Morse had a two-run double while Dan Groves added a double for Averill.

At Orono, Kash Keezer’s two-run double with one out in the bottom of the seventh scored the tying and winning runs to give the Red Riots the win.

Max Winter pitched a four-hitter while striking out 11 and walking five for the Red Riots.

Sean Babin had a double, a single, and two RBIs for Orono.

Aaron Woodman had two singles and Rich Stewart had a single and two RBIs for Dexter.
