PARKMAN – The gravel roads in this community were damaged so badly during this spring’s mud season that the cost for the repair is expected to exceed the amount budgeted.

Toward that end, residents will be asked during a special town meeting next week to allow selectmen to transfer $79,245 from the paving account to the road construction account.

“This was one of the worst mud seasons we’ve ever seen,” Brenda Hartford, administrative assistant, said Wednesday.

The road construction account contains $35,000, the amount the town received from the Urban-Rural Initiative program, according to Hartford.

If residents approve the transfer, any portion of the $79,245 not used will be returned to the paving account, Hartford said.

The special town meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31, at the Grange Hall.
