Pine Tree Legal launches new site

Pine Tree Legal Assistance has launched a new version of its Wabanaki Legal News Web site. The site is dedicated to providing legal news for American Indians living in Maine. The updates to the site include current legal news, tax tips and links to community resources relevant to Maine Indians.

The main feature of the Web site is an online version of PTLA’s semi-annual newsletter, Wabanaki Legal News. PTLA attorneys write the newsletter, which is distributed to more than 2,000 Indians at tribal offices and tribal communities in Maine. The newsletter focuses on a number of subjects, including sovereignty, criminal justice and tribal-state relationships.

The Web site may be found in the news section at www.ptla.org or at www.ptla.org/ptlasite/news/wabanaki/wabanaki.htm.

Pine Tree Legal is a nonprofit corporation. Established in 1966 by private attorneys in Maine to meet the need for legal assistance by low-income residents, Pine Tree Legal has provided help to more than 350,000 Maine people since its doors first opened. Pine Tree Legal maintains six permanent field offices in Portland, Lewiston, Augusta, Bangor, Machias and Presque Isle, and has a staff of more than 55, half of whom are part or full-time attorneys.
